I have now changed the colour of the front because now it links with the back of the album cover. As i progress creating the album cover, I will neaten up the number 5, however, at the moment I am just using as a draft as I progress further with the cover.

Front of album cover
Here is the first draft of the front of my album cover. To improve on this, I will add more patterns for the animation effect and also experiment with the colour scheme. I will need to create pictures to match the lyrics of the song "in five years time" thus being inspiration of Mikas album cover.

Back of CD case
I have used fireworks to create the back of the CD cover. I think this looks simple yet affective. I have stuck to my chosen colour scheme but added a few more vibrant colours to match the genre. I will be asking for my classes opinion on what they think can be added onto it that would make it more appealing.

Designing The Digi Pack
I am currently creating a digipack for my music video. My earlier ideas were to hand-draw all pictures for the front cover for the cd cover and for the back of it and also for the poster. However, I have now decided that it will be easier to just pattenerns and pictures using fireworks and maybe hand-draw pictures if I create the products and feel like need to look more animated to match the genre of the music video.

Tack listing with numbers
Here is the track listing but with numbers. However, I feel that it is more unconventional for the songs to be listed without the numbers. I want my products to be the most unconventional I can make them, to match with the genre that I am doing, animation. I asked for opinions on which looked the best, with numbers or without and the feedback that I got was that it looks better for the songs to be listed without the numbers. Therefore, I have decided to list the songs without the numbers.

feedback for position of track listings
I asked my media class which one of the three positionings of the track listings they prefered, and the text being in the middle of the CD case was most popular. I will take this into consideration when making my final products.

text from the right
This is the text from the right. I will now decide which one looks better and also ask for people opinions.
Layout of text for the back of my album
I am going to experiement with the layout for the song titles on the back of my album cover. I have started with the text being on the left to center.

Movie research
Love Dough
View more presentations from Rocketman162
In class, me and brad created a movie out of play dough. This was just to give us a basic idea of what a movie needs to entail, such as information on who directed/ produced the film. One thing we missed out of this however was the opening credits. If we decide to do another movie like this, we will include the opening credits.

further notice...

I am currently doing drawings for my CD cover and poster. I will upload these pictures of my drawings when they are complete. Depending on how they look when i upload them onto my computer, I will then decide if they will need to be edited etc.
making of a video
Yesterday, I worked with Brad and we made a video out of play dough. We experimented with the subtitles and shots. This will give me an idea of what a video consists of and how it is structured. It made us think about how the order of shots will need to be in a correct order.

Where I am up too..
Over the past few days, I have been working on the CD cover. I am experiementing with fireworks and also drawing designs for the CD cover. I am planning on doing drawings for the cover and then edititing them. I am drawing because then the animation theme will be consistent throughout.

Chosen Colour Scheme

I have decided to go with this colour scheme. These will be the main colours for the poster and Cd cover, however, I am going to use loads of different, bright colours so that it links with the animation theme. I am taking inspirtaion from Mika's album cover as his cover is also animation and these is a use of a variety of colours.

feeback from colour scheme
I am going to ask my target audience which colour scheme they would prefer for the cd cover and music poster. From the results, I will then pick the colour scheme to go along with throughout for my products.
Brad: these colours remind me of the beach and sea, which reflects the band of the song. I like the number 1 colour scheme and the number 4 colour scheme.
I don't like number 2 and 3 because they dont look well together and look too depressing for the song.
Lee: I like 1,2 and 4. This is because they are a good variation of colours and the blue contrasts well with orange.
Micheal: I like colour scheme 2 because the colours compliment each other well and the song is quite lighthearted, and these colours reflect this well.
Ryan: I like number 1 because the colours merge well together and the colours best match the mood of the song.
James: i like colour scheme number 2 because they are bright colors and match the theme of the song.
colour scheme
These are the colour schemes that I have picked. I think that these colours will work very well together on the cd cover and also on the poster. I also think that they match the genre of the song very well. The colours match the upbeat theme of the song. Looking at other colour scheme on posters, I think the colours i have chose to work with are quite unconventional. Music posters are quite basic so that the artist is the main focus. Whereas my poster will be opposite to this and vibrant colours will be used. The colour that features most on music posters I have recognised is black. I think I need to avoid using this colour as it wouldn't relfect the song of the video very well.

Colour Scheme
I need to decide on a colour scheme for my poster and album cover. Because my music video is animation, I think I will carry the animation theme on through to the poster and album cover. I will either use bright vibrant colours or subtle colours. To help me make a decision, I will produce a block of different colours and ask my class which colour scheme they would rather. I will then take this into consideration. I have been researching other posters to see the colour scheme which has been used. If I want my poster and cd cover to look unconventional I should use bright colours. If I want it to look conventional then I think I should use more lighter and soft colours.

Final Font
Due to my audience's voting and my personal choice, the font that I am going to go along with is 'light up the world'. I think this font will work really well with the choice of song and type of music video that I am going to create. I think it suits the 'animation' style really well but also doesn't look childish. Because I am drawing all of my products and creating them by hand, I will have to base my font around this.

Fonts
All of these fonts have a 'cartoon' effect to them. I think that this is important because my video is animation. I have chosen these 4 fonts and I am going to ask a number of people for their opinions on which one they think would suit the genre of my music video best. This will enable me to make a decision based on the outcome. I think it is important to get peoples opinion so that I will definitely know if it will appeal to my target market or not.
2 people chose this font for my album cover and poster.
7 people chose this font - the feedback that I got is that it matches the genre well of the song and also the fact that I am doing an animation video. They also said that it would relate to my target audience quite well.
5 people chose this font. It was between 'light up the world' font above and this one.
Nobody liked this font. The feeback that I got for this is that its too boring and simple and that it wouldn't stand out.
Font ideas for my album cover and poster
I will need to look at fonts that will be used in my music video and also on the album and poster. I will need it to match the genre and also look professional. The genre of my music video is indie therefore, my work will need to stand out and be rather unique.
What equipment am I going to need....
I am going to need various equipment so that I can actually produce my music video. The most important thing that I need to consider for when I film or take photos for my video, is the lighting. Because i will de drawing, I need the pencil lines to be really clear, therefore the lighting will need to be light around the paper. The following things are what I am going to need:
- Camera
- Video Camera
- Lighting
- Any props that I will to use
- Best location
Target Audience
After researching various areas in order to create my music video, it has become more clear to me what my target audience will be. As my music video is going to be animation, it will be targeted mostly at a younger audience. However, asking older ages what they think of animation, it could also be targeted at an older audience too. Therefore, the age of my target audience could be anything inbetween 12 years too 30 years an so on. I think that I have picked a good age range because it will give me a larger target market range - therefore, this would generate more profit. I want the album cover and poster to be quite proffesional and not child like even though my video will be animation. I will take inspiration from artists and bands such as Mika and Example.

Lyrics - Noah And The Whale
Oh, well in 5 years time
We could be walking around a zoo
With the sun shining down over me and you
And there will be love in the bodies of the elephants too
And I'll put my hands over your eyes but you'll peek through
And there will be sun sun sun all over our bodies
And sun sun sun all down our necks
And there will be sun sun sun all over our faces
And sun sun sun so what the heck
'Cos I'll be laughing at all your silly little jokes
And we'll be laughing about how we used to smoke
All those stupid little cigarettes and drink stupid wine
'Cos it's what we needed to have a good time
But it was fun fun fun when we were drinking
And it was fun fun fun when we were drunk
And it was fun fun fun when we were laughing
And it was fun fun fun, oh it was fun
Oh, well I'll look at you and say it's the happiest I've ever been
And I'll say I no longer feel, I have to be James Dean
And she'll say yeah well I feel oh pretty happy too
And I'm always pretty happy when I'm just kicking back with you
And it'll be love love love all through our bodies
And it'll be love love love all through our minds
And it'll be love love love all over her face
And love love love all over mine
And though really all these moments are just in my head
I'll be thinking about them as I'm lying in bed
And I know that really it might not even come true
But in my mind I'm having a pretty good time with you
Oh in 5 years time I might not know you
In 5 years time we might not speak
In 5 years time we might not get along
In 5 years time you might just prove me wrong
Oh there will be love love love wherever you go
We could be walking around a zoo
With the sun shining down over me and you
And there will be love in the bodies of the elephants too
And I'll put my hands over your eyes but you'll peek through
And there will be sun sun sun all over our bodies

Songs...
I have thought of these songs which I think would be the best to make an animation video from. I am going to ask 20 people which song they think would be best to do my animation video to.
It is clear that the most popular song choice is Noah And The Whale followed by Jack Johnson - Better Together and Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song. 5 Years Time will be the song I will use for my music video.
Choosing a song
I really need to chose the right song for my music video. The song needs to have alot of lyrics because I am doing animation. What I draw needs to reflect the lyrics at the same time. I need the animations to be quick and upbeat so it keeps the audience entertained.

Coldplay - poster

Lady Gaga - poster
This poster is too promote lady gaga's tour. The poster is a long shot of her, allowing the viewer too see all of her body. Her facial expression is confident, as you would need to be to perform in front of thousands of people. Lady gaga stands out the most on this poster, as she is wearing a silver top which stands out on the black background. This is because the poster is obviously promoting her, so she has to be the main focus of the poster. The fact that men are in the background suggests that she is a very dominant woman as she is most dominant on the page. The writing on this poster is plain and clear, this is conventional for a poster as it has to be clear so the audience and easily see it.
Mika CD
Like the CD cover and back of the CD cover, the actuall CD still has the continuous pattern on it. It has the heading that is on the front of the cover "life in cartoon motion"
Mika - Front Album Cover
This album cover has a use of very vibrant colours. This reflects the artist very well - this is because Mika's music is upbeat and fun. If the album was to be dull and basic colours, it wouldn't reflect the genre at its best at all. The pictures that are used could suggest situations that Mika sings about in his album. For example, there is a song on this album called 'lollipop' and the circles of colour represent that song. Another song on this album is 'relax take it easy' - there is a picture of a man sitting back on a sofa which relates to this song also. I think its a really good effect to make an album cover reflect the songs that are in the track list - I will take this into consideration when creating my album cover.
Back Of Mika's CD
The back of this album links well the front of the album cover. The pattern carries onto the back from what is on the front of the cover. The font used for the song titles matches the theme of the cover and the genre of the music, however a disadvantage for this font is that it is not very clear or easy to read. It is is the same font as a heading which is used on front of the cover "life in cartoon motion" I will take this in to consideration when creating my album cover, and use a font which is alot more clear to read but also reflects the genre of music for my music video.
The Kooks - album cover
This album cover is highly unconventional, as there is no pictures just lettering. It is very unconventional because there isn't even a picture of the band. This could suggest that they feel they don't need to show themselves on the album cover, because they know that they are successful. Most of The Kooks song meanings are straight to the point, no matter what the subject of the song is about. This reflects in this album cover, because its just simple and clearly shows the album is The Kooks. The colour of the lettering stands out really well on the black background. No bright colours have been used however, because this would not match their genre of music. Their music is acoustic and is easy to 'chill out' too, therefore using bright colours wouldn't reflect this band at all.

Example - album cover
This album cover from the album 'watch the sun come up' by Example is very creative. My idea for a music video is animation, and this cover would give me alot of inspiration. The lyrics from the song 'watch the sun come up' match with what's going on, on the album cover. For example, one lyric is "you and that red dress - what a pairing." It is clear too see that the woman on the cover is wearing a red dress. Also, the lyric "spoke through kisses you didn't speak English" - there are lips on the cover which reflects those lyrics.
Noah And The Whale - album cover
The cover entirely shows the medium close up of the band. I think the fact that only one member of the bands face is clear and the rest is blurred. This may be because the Singer of the group, the one whose face is clear is known to be the main person for the band. Because he is looking through a telescope pointing at the audience it attracts your focus to this album cover more. This album cover is very mysterious and secretive towards the audience as you can't see what the band are looking at. The bands genre is reflected alot through this album cover.

Analysing Music Videos - The Kooks - Naïve
How are the band/artist represented? Is this similar across the videos?
The artist is represented in quite an 80's style but more modern to appeal to a modern day audience. He is shown to be how a typical person of his age would act. For example, a house party is shown, with a male lying on the floor. Throughout the video, the artist is also shown to be quite responsible.
Analysing Music Videos - Stereophonics - Dakota
How are the band/artist represented? Is this similar across the videos?
The artist is represented in a really layed back kind of way. He is shown to be casual when driving his car. He is also shown to be in control as he is driving, and not a passenger. The car that he is driving could consider that he may be rich as its quite a classic car. This is conventional for a music video as the artist is made to look good throughout the video. The company the artist has throughout the video is with an attractive female, which also represents the artist in a good way and makes him stand out. The female is also playful which conveys a rock and roll theme. She puts her hands over his eyes whilst he is driving, which shows she is willing to take risks which links with the rock and roll theme. The band is only included for a short period of time in this video. This therefore, puts the lead singer as the main focus. There is also the America Hotel, which shows the artist to b very international.
What relationship exists between the images and the lyrics in the chosen videos?
The video starts with the lyrics "thinking back thinking of you" the image used to portray this is when he is driving his car in a very casual way. His facial expression shows him in deep thought which shows that he is thinking about something. The lyrics in the chorus "you made me feel like the one" is shown with the image just being of him and the artist been the main focus to the audeince, which makes it quite personal. The lyrics "i dont know we are going now" is shown with the image of a sign post which reflects these lyrics very well.
What relationship exists between the music and the images?
In this video there is a clear relationship between the music and the images. When the music changes its note, the image cuts straight to another prt of the video. The cuts are kept short to reflect the beat of the music. When you can hear a guitar for the music, the image shown is of the artist actaully playing the guitar. When the drums start on the chorus, it shows one of the band members actually playing the dums to the beat of the music.
Are there any inter-textual references to other media forms? If so, who/what?
A media form that is shown in this video is that it relates to been a film because of the acting.
Is it possible to see any common features in music videos?
Common features in music videos that are present in this music video is that the artist is made to look good and stand out the most. This is a conventional feature in most music videos.

Analysing Music Videos - The verve - Bittersweet Symphony
How are the band/artist represented? Is this similar across the videos?
The artist is represented in a care free way. This is shown by him walking down a busy street and not been phased by anybody walking past him. He is presented to be quite lonely. No matter what people are doing as they walk past him and say to him, he doesn't acknowledge other people at all. This could suggest he is thinking about his actions etc. However, the end of the video contrasts with the start of the video. This is because at the start he is on his own and it seems that people are against him, however by the end of the video, the people are walking the same way as he is, and this could suggest that they can now see his way of thinking maybe.
What relationship exists between the images and the lyrics in the chosen videos?
In the video the artist lip syncs and in various points of the video, the images mirror the lyrics. The lyrics which say "but the airways are clean" there is a binman cleaning the pavement which mirror those lyrics. "your a slave to money" lyrics also are shown through the images of a man pushing out a fridge, which is his job, and it shows how his job is a chore to him - but he has to do it because of money.
What relationship exists between the music and the images?
The music doesn't really link with the images. The speed that the artist is walking down the pavement doesn't fit with the beat of the music. This suggests that this is because he doesn't seem to fit in with everyday life and he hasn't got the same motivation as everybody else around him.
Is it possible to see any common features in music videos?
Common features in this music video is he obvious, where you can see the artist singing, however he isn’t dancing, because it doesn’t fit the genre of the song.

introduction to the A2 project
I am creating a music video, the front and back of an album cover and also poster promoting the album. Over the next few weeks, I will be analysing genre, bands/artists, and lyrics which I am interested in. In order for my music video to be a success, I will have to be able to link the lyrics with the music video. At the moment, my idea for a music video is stop animation.
I will be looking at different genres such as
- Indie
- Pop
- RNB
